New Afro-fusion voice vows to tackle social issues

Paputo

Upcoming Afro-fusion artiste Paputo, real name Carlos Taraswa says his wish is to tackle social ills through music.

“I want to educate the nation through producing music that is rich with content that addresses various social vices affecting our nation,” Paputo said.

“It is our duty as artistes to try and address such challenges especially in this modern technological era whereby young people are easily swayed by western media.

Paputo’s musical journey started four years ago and to date he has released singles including Tivake Musha, Promises, Chikomo, My Wish and Ndione.

Chikomo, which was released in 2021, surpassed expectations, it was played and it is still getting airplay on Africa’s biggest satellite television (DStv), Trace Africa channel.

Only good video productions from across the continent are played, for a newcomer like Paputo it is a huge success story.

“It is a gospel song that was shot in Harare (Eyecourt area) and it was directed by Hastings of Rocklife Media,” Paputo said.

“I am happy with the way my music is being accepted, I have been releasing singles in order to gauge my popularity.

“Although I would have loved to receive as much airplay as possible on radio like what I am getting on television, I think now Zimbabwe is ready for my music. I will definitively release my debut album this year.

“My latest video titled Wakaunza Rudo, is out, it is a love song for all age groups.”

The Njanji Tribe Band frontman said in future he wishes to collaborate with artistes such as Tammy Moyo, Ammara Brown, Jah Prayzah and Mbeu.

The 21-year-old musician is not performing live shows regularly, a situation which he attributed to absence of a management team on his side and promoters.

“I would love to perform every weekend, at the moment I can't, they are no promoters,” he said.

“The situation is draining me a lot; every now and then I have to folk out money from my pocket to cater for band expenditures.”
