FEMALE rapper Young Gemini — real name Tania Seremwe — who was bestowed with the best female rapper award at the recently held Zim Hip-hop awards said her crowning moment was easy as she didn’t feel any competition.
Gimini was nominated together with Phreshy, Noluntu J, Shian, Millz Millions and Kikky Badass. Kikky went on to distance her brand from the awards after she pointed out irregularities in the nomination process.
Speaking to the Standard Style, Gemini said she didn’t feel any competition from other female rappers, including Kikky Badass the self-proclaimed Queen of Zim hip-hop.
“I feel happy about the award, but now I am a bit pressured to maintain the works I have been putting out and also to show that the award is rightfully mine.
“Winning the award was not a stiff competition at all because no one on that nominees list had worked so hard this year like I did. I released a mixtape and an album that were well streamed and no female out there had put out as much content as I did,” she said.
Quizzed if the competition would have been stiffer if Kikky Badass had not pulled out of the awards, Young Gemini said the Talk hit-maker is just someone who has more recognition than the actual work.
“Kikky is just one person who has more recognition because she has been in the industry for long whilst I had not even been thinking of music, but where we are now, there is no competition as it is all about the work.
“I would appreciate it if she does not pull out next year so that I get the award again without people doubting my abilities,” said Gemini.
