Poor officiating mars Manicaland netball bubble

GREENFUEL

GREENFUEL underlined its title credentials after a dominant performance in the first two matches of the Rainbow Netball National League, but poor officiating took the limelight.

The Chisumbanje club set the tone for its title challenge after dismissing both Tenax and Santa.

Captain Lynnette Dhliwayo said they are going for the title and anything less would be a disappointment.

“We only have one motto at GreenFuel, we play like we train, and we train like we play. Everyone gave their all during the two games, we had nothing to prove because we knew we had good structures. Both Santa and Tenax witnessed it. As GreenFuel we will continue to strive for greatness as we eye the championship,” she said.

The GreenFuel versus Santa Queens match was one-sided as the hosts ran 64-37 winners. It had been expected to be a competitive match, but it did not live up to that billing.

Tenax captain Maybe Matsaira said they are not dropping their heads and is confident they will improve as the season progresses.

“All I can say is we are still in the race. Time is still there for us to work harder, both on our defensive side and attack," she said her team lost both matches.

Santa Queens captain Linda Kashongo lamented the match officials' performance but was pleased that they managed to collect maximum points against Tenax.

“The games were good and very competitive. Both teams were strong. We played well in our first game because Tenax was our target. We wanted to get revenge after last season's defeats. We managed to win even though the umpires were not doing justice to us," Kashongo said.

"In the second game against GreenFuel, we did not have enough energy. It seems like our players had exhausted their energy in the first game. However, officiating was also bad, and this time, it was worse

"Besides bad umpiring, we as a team, made our mistakes that we need to correct, and we have noted them down so that our next games will be perfect."
