Mambudzi basks in Eastern Region Soccer League golden boot

With 15 goals in 32 games, the 21-year-old marksman has become the hero of Mutare City Rovers FC, rewriting the record books and inspiring a new generation of aspiring footballers.

Mutare City Rovers FC striker Tadiwa Mambudzi is on cloud nine after he finished as the 2024 Eastern Region Soccer League top goal-scorer.

With 15 goals in 32 games, the 21-year-old marksman has become the hero of Mutare City Rovers FC, rewriting the record books and inspiring a new generation of aspiring footballers.

Mambudzi’s story is one of talent, resilience, and an unrelenting drive to succeed and for his team and fans, he is not just a top scorer, he is an inspiration, proving that with passion and perseverance, dreams can come true.

He is overwhelmed with pride for achieving such a milestone.

“It feels great to be at the top and seeing my name at the top and I am thankful to God first then my family, my teammates, the coaches not forgetting the fans who cheered me on in every match,” Mambudzi said.

This is one of his biggest achievements in a football journey that began in Sakubva, Mutare, back in 2016.

“My career began in 2016 when I played at grassroots level. I was playing for Sherkon Stars, an academy team based in Sakubva, Mutare. And since the beginning of my career, I have played for Sherkon Stars, TelOne and Mutare City Rovers FC,” he revealed.

A deep love for the game inspired him to choose football as a career.

“I chose football because I was inspired by people living in my area. I was surrounded by footballers, so we used to go and watch them play until I gave it a try to play football as well. Now football has become my source of income. I can manage to buy basic needs, but I think it will benefit more when I play and get more game time in Zimbabwe's top-flight football,” Mambudzi said.

He reflected on some of the challenges he has faced in his fledgling football career.

“Every profession has its challenges and I do have challenges I am facing as well, which include game time mostly and professionalism when it comes to getting recognition and signing contracts without an agent,” he said.

His unwavering drive to succeed in football has made him dedicate his life to football only.

His biggest achievements so far since the beginning of his career is winning the Central Region Soccer League and helping his team TelOne FC gain promotion into the Premier league last year.

Despite winning the golden boot, Mambudzi failed to guide Mutare City Rovers FC to promotion as the team finished in fifth place with 58 points from 32 matches, 14 behind champions Triangle United FC.

Going forward, the 21-year-old striker Mambudzi who was born and raised in Sakubva, vowed to give everything to chase the dream of playing in the national team, fly the country’s flag internationally and make a big difference in football.
