Harare Classic, stroll in the park for Teguru

Sport
On Saturday, the Fitness First Gym athlete emerged victorious in the Eat n Lick-sponsored Harare Classic Senior Men category to pocket US$2 000 in prize money.

GIDEON Teguru’s star continues to shine brighter both on the local and international scene as he heralds himself as a bodybuilder of repute.

On Saturday, the Fitness First Gym athlete emerged victorious in the Eat n Lick-sponsored Harare Classic Senior Men category to pocket US$2 000 in prize money.

He beat second-placed Fitness First athlete Nigel Maphosa, while Quinton Phiri from Bulawayo’s Musclerag finished third.

This was Teguru’s second triumph in succession at the Harare Classic.

“This was a stroll in the park. You can see how much effort he put over the past year to achieve such a terrific body,” Teguru said.

“I wasn’t under any pressure getting into this competition given that I was in Dubai lately being the only black man and placing fourth against huge men. These were very small boys that I competed with today (Saturday).”

The Herentals Group of Colleges-sponsored athlete posed to Jah Prayzah’s Chiremera back-track, fortifying his position as Harare Classic’s finest.

He issued a chilling warning to would-be contenders at next month’s Zim Nationals.

“I will bring a more defined body built to perfection, and I will be as dry as the desert. So enter the big show at your own peril because you know the champ is coming for the top gong,” he boasted.

“(I’m) very grateful to my coach, Losson Muhambi, for pushing me through. All the pain and sweat have turned sweet now.”

Harare Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (HBBFA) secretary-general Tarirai Chirume paid homage to the various sponsors who supported the event.

“The tournament went on well, couldn’t have asked for anything better. Two years in a roll giving out handsome rewards hasn’t been an easy feat. To have sponsors trusting you with their money and products, it shows that there’s something good that we are doing as an association,” Chirume said.

“Many thanks to our sponsors, Eat n Lick, and a whole lot of partners who have teamed up to make this a success. Without them, there’s no bodybuilding to talk about.”

Title sponsors Eat n Lick, represented by their marketing manager Valerie Mandeya, explained the rationale behind sponsoring Bodybuilding and HBBFA.

“Most of our staff complement believe in health and wellness. It’s not just mental health and mental wellness, but also physical well-being,” she said.

“We have a significant staff complement and we also believe that a healthy staff is a happy staff that also serves our customers with a golden smile and gives them golden service and a golden product.”

Added Mandeya: “So partnering Harare Classic and the bodybuilding and fitness industry is not a far stretch from what we believe for our stuff and ourselves and even our customers.

“We serve healthy organic products to our customers, so it’s just a marriage of same thought and discipline if we may call it that way. So it made sense for us to support them.”
