ZIMBABWE is slowly becoming a favourite destination for foreign athletes with bodybuilders from Malawi and Zambia set to feature at this year’s edition of the Harare Classic set for 7 Arts Theatre tomorrow.
This year’s event will see competition in five different categories which are the men’s open bodybuilding, men’s physique, women’s bikini, men's fitness and junior men’s bodybuilding.
One of the top bodybuilding events on the local scene, the Harare Classic this year is expected to attract top foreign bodybuilders from Malawi and Zambia.
“This year’s competition is going to be bigger and also in terms of the venue. We are looking forward to having athletes coming from as far as Malawi, Zambia and our own guys like Spartan, Edward Mutero (Gearbox) who are based in South Africa.” Harare Classic chairperson Brighton Gotora said.
Last year’s edition saw Gideon Teguru winning the senior men bodybuilding contest while the women’s bikini title went to Gweru bodybuilder Yeukai Midzi.
Joselu Luquembo won the men’s physique, Beloved George won the men’s fitness, Denzel Ngwerume won the junior men bodybuilding and Martha Flavour Ngoma conquered in the women fitness class.
“Our overall winner is walking out with US$2 000. Our main sponsors are Eat n lick, Herentals group of schools, Musabvunda and others which I did not mention,” Gotora said.
