Zim golfers impress at International Pairs World finals

Nothando Namuinesu and Litchel Mandiveyi

THE Zimbabwean pair of lady golfers, Nothando Namuinesu and Litchel Mandiveyi, put up an impressive show after they finished fourth at the International Pairs World finals which concluded in Tenerife, Spain, last Friday.

Namuinesu and Mandiveyi won the right to represent the country at the global stage after they won the Sterling Hotels Pairs Zimbabwe finals at Elephant Hills in August after a three-way play-off.

At the International Pairs World finals, the two Royal Harare golfers were up against champions from as many as 30 countries across the globe.

“This was the world finals, so it was quite a big and important tournament. So we have different pairs from all over the world coming to compete for the championship title. Hopefully next year, we are going to represent again and bring the trophy home,” Namuinesu said.

“We have learnt our lessons. So we take this time to work on our game and also give back to the community and mentor some young lady golfers.”

Sterling Group of Hotels sponsored the Zimbabwe team that participated in the International Golf Pairs World finals.

It was the first time that the fast-rising hospitality industry player sponsored the event in Zimbabwe as well as the team for the global championship.

“We are proud of Namuinesu and  Mandiveyi for their outstanding achievement,” chairman of the Sterling Group of Hotels, Wilbert Manyika, said.

“Their success is a testament to their talent, dedication and support they received from the golfing community.

“We are committed to continuing our efforts to promote golf in Zimbabwe and to provide opportunities for talented golfers to compete at the highest level.”

The sponsorship was part of the group's efforts to support the development of sports tourism in Zimbabwe.
