One of the country's representatives at the Paris Olympic Games Stephen Cox had a difficult start to the global event after he finished fourth in Heat 5 rowing single scull race yesterday morning.
Cox was hoping for a third place, which would have seen him qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition.
The Zimbabwean arrived home in 7 minutes 11 seconds and was 17 seconds behind German rower Oliver Ziedlar who won the heat.
However, Cox will have another chance to put up a better show when he competes in the repechage competition this morning.
The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) gave an update on Cox's race on their social media platform yesterday.
"Steve Cox finished a strong fourth in his opening heat, battling it out with a Cuban rower down the course! Though he didn’t quite make the top 3, he showed great determination and skill. Not to worry, Steve will get another chance to shine in the repechage tomorrow at 09:36," ZOC said.
Cox was the first Zimbabwean to compete at this year's edition of the Global Games.
Othe athletes who will be flying the country's flag in Paris include marathon runners Isaac Mpofu and Rutendo Nyahora as well as sprint runners, Tapiwa Makarawu and Makanakaishe Charamba both 200m specialists.

There is also leading swimmer, Dennilson Cyprianos who will be competing in the 200m backstroke and Paige Van der Westhuizen doing the 100m freestyle.
Van DER Westhuizen is expected to take to the waters on Wednesday with Cyprianos competing the following day.
The 200m athletics heats are scheduled for August 5 while marathon runners Mpofu and Nyahora will compete on August 10 and 11 respectively.
ZOC dangled some incentives for athletes, who are going to bring home some medals with a Gold medalists set receive US$10,000, silver medalists US$7,500, bronze medalists US$5,000, and those who finish in the top 10 will get US$2,500.
