ZIMBABWE Cricket (ZC) have revealed an ambitious drive to make the domestic premier club cricket tournament, the National Premier League (NPL) the most rewarding sporting tournament in the country.
The fourth edition of the NPL games kicked off yesterday and continues into this morning with the remaining week one three matches lined up.
ZC managing director Givemore Makoni revealed the association's bigger plans with regards to the NPL.
"The NPL is a demonstration of our commitment to investing time, energy and resources into club cricket — the lifeblood of our national game," said Makoni.
"Beyond offering prize monies and providing grants to participating clubs to cover match day-related expenses, our ultimate goal is to make the NPL the biggest and richest sporting tournament in Zimbabwe."
Makoni said the clubs should strive to perform better to attract sponsors and effectively translate into a huge purse.
"For that to happen, we have to ensure we have a quality, marketable product that attracts interest from broadcasters and the corporate world," he added.
"Once there is big sponsorship, clubs will be able to attract and retain talented players and coaches, providing them with the resources they need to develop their skills and reach their full potential."

Today, debutants Rimuka host Rainbow at Kadoma Sports Club, Queens are at home against Strikers at Kwekwe Sports Club while Knights date Scorpions at Masvingo Sports Club.
