Upcoming golfer Matthew Bramford is delighted with his performance at the FBC Zimbabwe Open after he emerged as the best amateur golfer in the tournament at Royal Harare Golf Club last week.
The 20 – year – old golfer was the only amateur golfer who made the cut at the event after shooting rounds of 71 and 74 in the first two days before carding 74 and 64 in the final two rounds to finish in six – way tie for 38 th on level.
A total of eight amateur golfers took part in the event including local teenage sensation Keegan Shutt who missed the cut by one shot and other upcoming Zimbabwean golfer Tanaka Chatora, Braydon Amm, Lloyd Dube and Innocent Mukumba.
Two other amateurs Deveon Valentine and Ethan Fichardt were from South Africa.
“I spoke with my sports psychologists and we thought if I can get level par at the end of the week we would have exceeded our expectations and I think we did that. I couldn’t be happier with my performance,” Bramford said.
He was also excited to run shoulders with some of the best golfers on the continent while he had a word of encouragement for other amateurs.
“It was just a wonderful learning experience. I think anytime you play people that are better than you, you always learn something and I think that’s what I did this week
“I think they (other amateurs) just need to put in contestant work till they get consistent results and as golfers that’s what we are always trying to do,” he said.
