Zimbabwe professional golfer Stuart Krog has expressed his love for the home tournament the FBC Zimbabwe Open and harbours hopes of winning in his career.
Krog is one of the top Zimbabwe golfers who are flying the country’s flag at the premier local golf event which teed off at Royal Harare Golf Club yesterday. The 28-year-old golfer is coming from a busy debut season on the Sunshine Tour where he competed in more than 30 events since earning his Tour card a year ago. Krog enjoyed a very successful rookie season on the Sunshine Tour which was headlined by a runner up finish at the FNB Eswatini Challenge.
It was a feat that saw him shoot to the top of the Fortress Rookie of the Year standings at the time.
“Apart from the Majors, the Zimbabwe Open is one tournament I would love to win. It doesn’t matter who you are and where you are from, just want to win your national Open. It is my favourite event on the Sunshine Tour and it is very nice to start the season at home,” he told this publication.
It would be interesting how Krog would fare at this year’s edition of the FBC Zimbabwe Open.
Krog reflected on the last 12 months of his career where he feels he experienced a lot of growth.
“The last 12 months have been very busy but very good for my golf with a lot of learning, a lot of growing, a lot of practice, a lot of hard work and I am starting to see results. It has been very rewarding.
“After the Zimbabwe Open I have a week off then I have two weeks playing in Pretoria, then play at Sun City and after that we go to Zambia before taking a rest,” he said.

He paid tribute to all the stakeholders who have teamed up to make the Zimbabwe Open what it is today.
“It’s testament to the sporting community in Zimbabwe that they love sport. I am grateful to the sponsors and the organisers of such a prestigious tournament. And it’s not only about the sponsors putting in the money but also the fans making an effort to come out and support the local boys and even support golf in general. It is a great initiative for Zimbabwe sport,” Krog said.
Krog had a trailblazing junior career during which he won the 2013 Junior Golfer of the year accolade while he represented the country countless times as a junior and amateur golfer.
And after spending a number of years playing collegiate golf in the US at Henderson State University where he was studying for a Sports Management degree, Krog decided to turn professional in 2021 after his studies for a Master’s degree were cut short by the Covid-19 outbreak.
