Striker Wilfred Muvirimi scored a goal in each half to hand FC Platinum secure the Platinum derby against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Boabab Stadium yesterday.

The four-time champions ensured a perfect start to the season after they won their opening match against newcomers Chegutu Pirates last week.

FC Platinum will be looking to reclaim the title they lost to Ngezi Platinum Stars seasons.

Coach Norman Mapeza was happy with the win, but did not want to read much into the result.

"We knew the challenge we were going to face , the condition of the pitch was not good, it was a little bit heavy, but I think we looked solid in all departments. We just need to keep working hard and take each game as it comes. It's just the second game of the season and so many things are going to happen," he said after the match.

His counterpart Takesure Chiragwi felt his side played one of it's best games inspite of the defeat.

"This is one of the best games that we have played and where we have thrown everything into a game. I think we were better at keeping possession and how we were attacking. We did everything, but sometimes you have to give credit to the opponents and admit that it wasn't just your day," he said.

FC Platinum took the lead after just seven minutes when striker Wilfred Muvirimi rose the highest to nod home an inviting Oscar Bhebhe corner kick

The hosts, who were dominant from the first whistle, tried to come back into the match and created a number of chances.

Leslie Kashitigu forced a brilliant low save from Wallace Magalane with a well struck effort from the edge of the box.

Claude Mapoka and Tinotenda Murasiranwa took turns to spurn chances as FC Platinum took a slender lead to the break.

Ngezi Platinum relentlessly bombarded the visitors' goal area in search of an equaliser after the restart, but the FC Platinum defence stood firm.

Just before the hour mark Murasiranwa's effort from an angle cannoned off the upright post and bounced back into play.

It was FC Platinum, who managed to double their lead halfway through the second half,  Muvirimi completing a double following a counter attack.
