Local golfer Obert Beaton took advantage of familiar territory to scoop the inaugural Zvishavane Golf Classic which was held at Roland Park Golf last Saturday.
Beaton who is a member of Roland Park Golf Club needed a massive 40 points to win the competition which is part of a series of events by Ramwa Golf Management to raise funds for Ubuntu Junior Golf.
Ubuntu Junior Golf is a grassroots golf development program created by Ranwa Golf Management to complement national junior golf structures to promote the sport of golf in schools. It came as a surprise for Beaton to win the competition.
“I just tried to play very well I didn’t know that my ‘very well’ was the best. That’s why I am here that’s how I managed to get 40. I would like to thank everyone from the sponsors and the club management for organizing this event,” he said.
The previous edition of the Ubuntu Junior Golf fundraising event was held in Chinhoyi last month.
