Zimbabwe’s cricket fans have been afforded an opportunity to watch local hero Sikandar Raza live in action at the 2023 Indian Premier League after DSTV clinched rights to broadcast the tournament.

The IPL, which brings together the world's best cricketers together burst into life yesterday, but Raza's Punjab Kings will open their account with a match against Kolkata Knight Riders today.

Raza became the fourth Zimbabwean to sign for an IPL side after Tatenda Taibu, Raymond Price and Brendan Taylor.

Yesterday SuperSport announced that they will broadcast all the matches for this edition of the IPL.

“Following updated conversations with the rights holder, DStv can confirm that all Indian Premier League matches in 2023 will be broadcast on SuperSport,” the channel wrote. "Your World of Champions SuperSport reached a commercial agreement with the rights holders to broadcast the IPL, starting today (yesterday)

All 74 matches of the 16th tournament will be broadcast live.

“We are very happy to have reached an agreement to continue our partnership with the IPL that extends back to the inaugural event in 2008,” said Marc Jury, chief executive of SuperSport.

The opening fixture, between the Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, was broadcast live.

Raza will be hoping to earn a place in a squad that contains some of the best players in the game at the moment.

He is teammates with South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Radaba, England’s Sam Curran and India super star batsman Shikar Dhawan.
