Former Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo

FORMER Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo has been sacked as head coach by Botswana Premier League side Sua Flamingoes after a string of poor results.

“Sua Flamingoes FC informs its valued supporters, stakeholders, the media and the entire football fraternity that it has amicably parted ways with its head coach Rahman Allen Gumbo with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.

The team takes this opportunity to thank coach Gumbo, who has immensely contributed to the growth of the team, leading them to a top eight finish in our maiden season in the elite league. We wish him well in his future endeavours. In the interim, Kopano Phakedi shall hold the fort until further notice,” the statement reads.

Sua immediately advertised for the post of head coach.

Gumbo was appointed Sua Flamingoes coach in April last year and led them to a seventh place finish in their first year in the topflight with 12 wins, seven draws and 11 defeats.

Gumbo has won league titles in Zimbabwe, Botswana and Malawi.

Other local coaches currently in Botswana include Philani “Beefy” Ncube, former Highlanders coach Mandla Mpofu, who is at Masitaoka and ex-Harare City mentor Taurai Mangwiro who recently joined Orapa United.

Mangwiro won his first match in the league at the weekend having kicked off with a defeat.

Mpofu’s Masitaoka fell 2-1 to BDF XI on Sunday away at Lobatse Stadium while Ncube’s Nico United lost 1-0 to Security Systems at Molepolole Sports Complex on Saturday.
