Edward “Gearbox” Mutero was crowned the 2022 Harare Classic bodybuilding champion after shrugging off stiff competition at Jubilee Hall, in Milton Park Harare over the weekend.

Mutero beat defending champion Gideon Teguru and Marume Classic winner Noah Dzvokora among others, and took home the US$1 500 winner’s cheque.

“Thank you family for the support. We are all team Gearbox. The show was competitive; it was not an easy victory. The show was well organised, thank you organisers, you guys fought a big fight. Harare Classic is becoming one of the biggest competitions in southern Africa. Next destination Zim nationals let’s do it, it’s ours,” Mutero said after his win.

Dzvokora came in second while last year’s winner Teguru was in third place.

Blessing “CC Banks” took first position in the men’s physique class in which he was also dominant in last year's championship.

The men’s fitness was won by Paul Bako and the junior men bodybuilding by Aaron Musarurwa.

Nomathamsanga Phiri won in Women Bikini Fitness and went home with US$500 plus a hamper while Lynette Tom, wo won here last year, was in second position.

Harare Bodybuilding and Fitness Association spokesperson Patson Chatedzuka was pleased with the way the event was staged.

“The show was a great success; the athletes did exhibit a high level of muscularity. The judges had to use their in-depth knowledge and come up with a winner. Old records are broken and new records are set,” he said.

“I would like to thank the sponsors for making the Harare Classic Body Building and Fitness Championship a success,” Chatedzuka added.
