Ngezi Platinum Stars began life without former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari on a high, winning their first game in five matches against Triangle in a league match at Baobab Stadium yesterday.
Ariel Makopa scored a hotly-disputed 79th minute header opening goal which resulted in a 13-minute stoppage as the visitors launched a protest.
Substitute Qadr Amini flighted a beautiful ball which was met by Makopa whose header was cleared by Tinashe Kabanda, but first assistant referee Polite Dube signalled that the ball had crossed the line.
Triangle coach Jairos Tapera urged his players to walk off the pitch, while demanding to watch the footage of the “goal”.
The match only resumed 13 minutes later, but there was still time for the hosts to add another one as youthful winger Tendayi Matindife headed home Amini’s cross 12 minutes into added time.
Ngezi Platinum Stars parted ways with Mwaruwari early in the week following a string of poor results.

Caretaker coach Takesure Chiragwi was pleased with the win.
“Winning at home is very important because that’s where you have a lot of confidence and the supporters are here also. The boys did very well because coming from those defeats, they deserve this no matter how we played. I am happy that we didn’t concede and it is a boost to our confidence,” he said after the match.
His Triangle counterpart, Jairos Tapera said: “I don’t know whether I can comment (about the goal incident), but what I can say is that we lost 2-0 to Ngezi. That’s it!”
