YADAH were once again punished for their sterility in front of goal as their winless run stretched to four matches with a defeat against ZPC Kariba in this Chibuku Super Cup Group A match at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

The Miracle Boys, just like they have done in their previous matches, played some good enterprising football and created a handful of chances, but failed to put them away.

In this encounter, they had at least 10 good chances in the first half alone, but ended up losing the match to a ZPC Kariba side which fashioned not more than three clear-cut chances.

It was their ex-player Johane Sibanda who made them pay the heavy price for failing to convert a glut of chances when his volley from outside the box on 48th minute hit the underside of the bar before going over the line for a spectacular goal.

The victory gave ZPC Kariba their first win of the campaign.

ZPC Kariba coach Godfrey Tamirepi admitted that they got away with the win.

“They were all over us in the first half and created a number of chances but they couldn’t bury them. In the second half, we got a goal, a sucker punch, and that was it,” he said.

“We had a good game plan, to sit back and contain them in the first half. In the second half we played with a lot of intent and purpose.”

Tamirepi’s side faces Caps United next to conclude their first round of matches.

Yadah’s Genesis Mangombe still wore a brave face although he knows that his boys will need to start producing the goods, especially in the final third if they harbour any chances of progressing to the next round of the knockout competition.

They play Herentals next.

“The boys played really well and the only bad thing about their performance today is that we lost. If you fail to capitalise on your chances, you are bound to be punished and that is exactly what happened. We need to improve on the conversion rate,” Mangombe said

Tanaka Shandirwa wasted the best chance for Yadah in the 44th minute when he lost his marker to run clean through, but could not beat ZPC Kariba goalkeeper Tapiwa Chilenga.

The striker tried to squeeze the ball underneath Chilenga when squaring the ball for a well-positioned Issa Sadiki was the best option.

Earlier on, Fortune Binzi had headed wide from some few yards out as Mangombe’s side completed dominated the proceedings.
