Christ consciousness

Erasmus Makarimayi

Under this column, we have studied widely the subject of new creation realities. Born again believers understand and appreciate that they are found in Christ and that Christ is found in the heart of the believer. Christianity or the Gospel of Christ doesn't proclaim an absentee Saviour. We're in an inseparable union with the Godhead.

Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature [creation]: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." We have a new life in Christ. This also confirms that our genealogy starts with the risen Christ then us in Him. It's a spiritual reality that throws into the dustbin the heretic teaching of generational curses for a believer.

Elsewhere we taught on deliverance, generational curses and altars and we dismantled the myth. The promise by Jesus in John 14:20, "At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you." is now a spiritual reality. Believers should be so Christ conscious that there is no occasion for the devil to steal our joy by suggestions contrary to the finished/accomplished work of Christ.

While we quote verses, we should always remember that the Bible isn't for just quoting or memorising but for knowing. We should not be quoting verses and at the same time running away from imaginary satanic attacks. Let us take full advantage of Christ in us, the hope of glory. That's Colossians 1:26-27, "[26] Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: [27] To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:"

Almost every born-again believer knows, 1 John 4:4, "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." Surprisingly not every born-again believer makes use of such valuable truth.

If we're to live victoriously and enjoy the peace of God that transcends all understanding, then we should embrace that Christ is in us without trying to think hard. It has to flow freely.

Jesus was so clear in His earthly ministry that God the Father was in Him. Let's look closely at the following. Matthew 17:15-18, "[15] Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. [16] And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. [17] Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. [18] And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour."

The disciples wondered and asked Him, Matthew 17:19-21, "[19] Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? [20] And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. [21] Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."

The bulk of Christendom has used this story to give the devil an upper hand over Christians. Let's simplify it. Jesus didn't ask for faith. We need to stress here that faith isn't a weapon to keep believers from partaking of what’s already theirs. It's useful to note that Jesus didn't pray and fast first before casting out the devil. That's enough food for thought. He knew His authority.

Let me close with this, Acts 3:1-2,6-8, "[1] Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. [2] And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; [6] Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. [7] And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. [8] And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God."

Please don't miss me here. Peter and John were going to the temple to pray. They didn't ask the lame man to wait until service was in progress or over but they just healed him. That's Christ consciousness.

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Grace and peace be multiplied to you through knowledge.
