“The late Samatha Dzapata’s cellphone was recovered at Zindoga Shopping Centre, Waterfalls where the suspect had left it with a certain man.”
Murengwa is said to have died on admission at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
After killing Dzapata, Murengwa sent messages explaining that his rocky relationship with the deceased had taken a toll on him emotionally and financially.
In a bid to save his relationship, Murengwa claims he spent almost US$3 000 in the past two weeks alone pampering her.
Pictures of the two having a good time in holiday resorts also went viral.
But Murengwa said he was not a happy man in his last days, accusing Dzapata of cheating.
“The problems started again before we went to Victoria Falls for a holiday when she hung up on a video call from her lover.
“I confronted her but we went ahead with the trip after I forgave her,” he said in the recording.
“We had another nasty fight after I realised she was still chatting with that guy and I hacked her phone.
“I confronted this man until Samantha decided to dump me for the guy.”
Murengwa was released from police cells on Thursday after assaulting his late girlfriend over the cheating claims.
“I then went to Waterfalls (on Friday) where she was staying with her sister along Simon Mazorodze Road,” he said.
“She started acting all funny, throwing stones around.
“I tried to reason with her until I became emotional and shot her while she was holding onto her sister.”
