Man assaults granny over bad spell

News
Six months were suspended on condition that Gudance Zingizi (24) does not commit a similar crime in the next five years.

A Makonde man has been jailed for 18 months in prison for assaulting his grandmother using a hoe handle after accusing her of casting a spell on him.

Six months were suspended on condition that Gudance Zingizi (24) does not commit a similar crime in the next five years.

The remaining 12 months were wholly suspended on condition he does 420 hours of community service at Mukohwe Valley primary school in Makonde.

Asked by Chinhoyi magistrate Nyasha Marufu why he assaulted Marther Kanyoka, Zingizi claimed that his grandmother had cast a bad spell on him not to marry.

“She is refusing to remove the spell from me so that I can marry,” claimed Zingizi

Kanyoka pleaded with the magistrate not to jail his grandson for the offence.

“Whatever the punishment you give him is fine, but please don’t imprison him.” begged Kanyoka

Zingizi was not represented while Rutendo Ngambizi prosecuted.
