Makururu was one of the invited clergy to the Heads of State and Government summit which was held at the New Parliament in Mt Hampden in the capital on Saturday.

JOHANNE the Fifth of Africa leader Archbishop Andby Makururu has backed President Emmerson Mnangagwa to take the Southern African Development Committee (SADC) to the next level after assuming the chairmanship of the regional body.

Makururu was one of the invited clergy to the Heads of State and Government summit which was held at the New Parliament in Mt Hampden in the capital on Saturday.

In an interview yesterday, Makururu said Mnangagwa had the capabilities to stir the ship and explore strategies that open economic opportunities in SADC.

“I am happy that l was one of the invited church leaders at the Southern African Development Committee Heads of State summit, l has already congratulated the President for assuming the chairmanship position,” he said.

“President Mnangagwa is a man who also preaches unity and peace so this is what we are going to witness in the region and is a hard worker and he will explore strategies that ensure they derive maximum value from natural endowments.”

Mnangagwa received the SADC badge from the outgoing chairman President Joao Lourenco of Angola symbolising the official announcement of his rein.

Makururu has visited Mnangagwa several times at the State House and has also in the past been invited to state functions.

He also commands a huge following across the globe with an estimation of one million congregants.
