A self-proclaimed prophet in Mount Darwin  has been jailed for an effective five years by Bindura regional magistrate Elisha Singano after his client died during an exorcism.

Tanhanha Chamunorwa was sentenced to six years in jail, but Singano conditionally suspended one year on condition of good behaviour

Prosecutor Edward Katsvairo said on January 13 this year, Chamunorwa was hired by the now deceased Track Kachenge to cleanse his homestead.

Chamunorwa gave Kachenge a concoction and he became unconscious for the whole day.

He came the next day and was told that Kachenge was still unconscious and he ordered the family to get out of a kitchen hut where he burnt some snuff before picking an axe handle and struck the deceased once on the head.

The family heard some noise and went to enquire about what was happening and found Chamunorwa shouting that he wanted want to kill someone while holding the axe handle.

A police report was filed leading to Chamunorwa’s arrest.
