Rustlers wreak havoc in Lupane

LUPANE villagers in Matabeleland North province recently intercepted five mini-trucks with stolen cattle as rustlers wreak havoc in the district.

Chief Menyezwa said they had created anti-rustling teams since villagers had lost confidence in the police, accusing some of them of being bribed by the criminals.

“The rustlers are terrorising the villagers here, working with some villagers who sell these cattle at undesignated places so that they can avoid paying levies to the council,” the chief said.

“We intercepted the trucks and handed the suspects to the police.”

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda said he was attending a meeting when contacted for comment.

“Send me your inquiry via WhatsApp, I will attend to it,” Banda said, but had not responded to the questions by the time of going to print.
