A 27 year old Gokwe man was last week murdered by fellow artisanal miners in a dispute over the sharing of gold.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday confirmed the incident that occurred in Shurugwi.
“The incident occurred at Wanderer mining area in Shurugwi on October 10,” Mahoko said.
“The now deceased Evince Mapfumo (27) and two suspects Munyaradzi Marufu (25) and Onias Tione (23) of Dongo area in Shurugwi prospected for gold together and got 16 grams.
“It is alleged that the suspects went away with the gold only to show up the next day with four grams of gold."
Mahoko said Mapfumo quizzed his colleagues on the missing gold and a misunderstanding arose among the trio.
He said Marufu and Tione drew knives from their pockets and allegedly stabbed the deceased all over.
Mahoko said a well-wisher ferried Mapfumo to Shurugwi district hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
