Zhombe man murdered over opaque beer

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday confirmed the tragic incident that occurred last Saturday.

A 24-YEAR-OLD man from Zhombe was fatally attacked with a knife and an axe after one of the assailants took a sip of the deceased’s opaque beer leading to a dispute.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday confirmed the tragic incident that occurred last Saturday.

He said the 24-year-old man was pronounced dead on admission to Dendera Clinic under Chief Malisa in Zhombe.

“The matter took place on March 22 at around 11:30pm at Mkobogwa business centre in Zhombe. Circumstances are that the now deceased Nqobizitha Mabidli was in the company of Noel Sibanda aged 22 walking along a footpath carrying opaque beer when they were intercepted by three men,” he said.

Mahoko said one of the assailants identified only as Chimbira wrested the beer before taking a sip resulting in an altercation with the deceased.

He said two other suspects, Munyaradzi Mtonga and Elmon Mkalalwa both of Maudzingwa village under Chief Malisa in Zhombe, attacked Mabidli using a knife and an axe before he fell unconscious and the trio fled from the scene.

Mahoko said a well-wisher rushed Mabidli to Dendera Clinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He said police had launched a manhunt for the three suspects and appealed to anyone with information to report at the nearest station.

In an unrelated matter, a 21-year-old woman from Mberengwa has been sentenced to 630 hours of community service after being convicted of unlawful possession of dagga.

Mahoko said on March 17 police were on patrol in Machovha village in Mberengwa.

He said they (police) discovered 21 plants of dagga in a garden leading to the arrest of Zvipozvashe Masuku.

Masuku was arraigned before Mberengwa Magistrates Court last Friday where she was convicted of the offence.
