Decomposed body found at Gweru farm

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the body was discovered by farm workers and nearby villagers on Friday last week.

POLICE in the Midlands have launched a manhunt for a man suspected to have killed his girlfriend before locking the body in a room at a Gweru farm.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the body was discovered by farm workers and nearby villagers on Friday last week.

“Police in Gweru Rural have launched a manhunt to account for a man being suspected in the murder of a 27-year-old woman at Harmonies Farm in Somabhula,” Mahoko said.

“The suspect being sought is Rangarirai Mutengwa aged 32. The suspect and the now deceased Abigail Khumalo were cohabiting at the farm where they were both employed.”

According to Mahoko, Mutengwa used to accuse his lover of infidelity and would occasionally beat her.

He said the couple was last seen at its residence at the farm on March 10 at around 10am by its neighbour, who is employed at the farm as a herdboy.

Mahoko said on March 11, the herdboy, who was off duty left the farm for his rural home in Lower Gweru.

“On March 20, he returned to the farm and did not see the couple,” he said.

Mahoko said flies were observed coming out of the room where the lovers stayed and the herdboy discovered that the room was locked from outside.

“On March 21 the herdboy, accompanied by neighbours, forced open the couple's door and discovered the dead body before making a police report,” he said.

Mahoko appealed to members of the public with information about the suspect to notify the nearest police station.
