Lack of funds stalls Umguza VTC project

LACK of funds has delayed the construction of the Umguza Vocational Training Centre

LACK of funds has delayed the construction of the Umguza Vocational Training Centre (VTC) multi-purpose workshop making lives difficult for students due to limited resources.

This was revealed by the acting principal of the institution Sarudzai Nyoni during a tour by the  Youth Empowerment Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Thursday last week.

She said the construction of the multiple-purpose workshop, started in 2016, had been stalled by lack of funds, adding that the project had not reached window level.

Nyoni said they were facing challenges due to lack of infrastructure.

She said this led the authorities to use the building for multiple purposes as there were no classrooms for the evening.

The same rooms are used to house students for evening classes.

“At the moment we are having a challenge due to limited space and resources within the vocational training centre which has limited our creativity,” she said.

The portfolio committee chairperson and Mashonaland West youth Proportional  Representation legislator Mutsawashe Ziyambi said the tour helped them to establish the truth about the status of VCT centres in Zimbabwe.

“As we tour the vocational training centre, we are aiming at creating a situation where necessary resources are availed within the centres to make sure the youth gain the necessary skill,” he

said.

Ziyambi said legislators intended to find out how they could eradicate challenges faced by the vocational training centre.
