Burglar begs magistrate to send him to jail

Plumtree magistrates courts

There was drama at Plumtree magistrates courts when a suspected burglar begged the magistrate to send him to jail saying he did not have bus fare to go back home from court.

The suspect Tylor Ncube (35), who was arrested after he was found wearing stolen clothes, appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware.

Ncube stunned the court when he begged Nembaware to send him to jail because he did not have bus fare to go back home.

The magistrate, however, refused to send him to jail saying prison cells were overcrowded.

Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa alleged that on December 4 last year, the complainant, who is a teacher, left his house locked, but when he returned on January 18 he discovered that his window was wide open.

When he entered his room he discovered that his groceries, clothes and his two gig black hard drives were stolen.

On February 3, the complainant saw the accused wearing his stolen clothes and filed a police report leading to Ncube's arrest.

The matter continues on March 17.
