Man assaults grandmother over witchcraft

Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa alleged that on January 9, the suspect picked an iron bar and went to confront his grandmother.

A 26-YEAR-OLD Plumtree man assaulted his grandmother with an iron bar after accusing her of bewitching him.

Admire Nyathi appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware last Thursday and was remanded in custody to January 24.

Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa alleged that on January 9, the suspect picked an iron bar and went to confront his grandmother.

He accused her of bewitching him before hitting her once on the head with the iron bar.

After the assault, he tried to run away, but fellow villagers chased after, apprehended and took him to the police station.

Nyathi said he was told by prophets that he had bad luck because he was bewitched by his grandmother.
