Nkayi man (20) on the run for murder

POLICE in Matabeleland South province have launched a manhunt for a 20-year-old man from Makasani village in Nkayi in connection with the murder of his colleague.

POLICE in Matabeleland South province have launched a manhunt for a 20-year-old man from Makasani village in Nkayi in connection with the murder of his colleague.

The incident occurred at Oak 3 Mine, plot number 34, Truvelo in Shangani, Fort Rixon, last week.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena identified the suspect as Richard Moyo.

The deceased is Ishmael Ngozo (23) from Bona village 1, Inyathi, who was employed at Oak 3 Mine.

“On December 5, the two were seated by the fireplace when a misunderstanding ensued over an issue of unsafe mining practices practised by Ngozo, which resulted in a firstfight. They were restrained by one of their workmates,” Mangena said.

She said Moyo felt he was not done with Ngozo, picked a metal bar and struck him on the left side of the head and he fell to the ground.

Moyo fled from the scene.

“Another workmate informed the owner of the mine and he (Ngozo) was rushed to Gweru General Hospital, but he died on December 9 due to injuries he sustained after he was struck,” she said.

The matter was reported to the police.

She appealed to the public to assist with information that may lead to Moyo’s arrest.
