CHIPINGE registrar Austin Dube (61) will serve an effective two-year jail term for theft of funds amounting to US$7 385.
The court heard that on July 28, the complainant, who is the Provincial Registrar for Manicaland in the case, noted some irregularities in Dube’s office.
An investigation was conducted and Dube could not account for US$4 115 which he had collected from their sub offices.
On August 28, Dube was given registry collection fees, amounting to US$6 793 and a deposit slip by the accountant.
The money was not banked.
On August 31, Dube went to the accountant’s office carrying a black plastic bag, where he instructed the cashier to open and count the cash.
The bag contained US$3 523 instead of US$6 793 that he was given on August 28.
Dube insisted that a fresh slip be written to the amount bearing the initial US$6 793 and a separate on bearing US$2 586.
