Pumula man steals US$900 from girlfriend

Nqabutho Ncube (34) pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months in jail.

A BULAWAYO man who allegedly stole US$900 from his girlfriend and fled to South Africa before returning later after spending the loot appeared at the Bulawayo Magistrates Court facing a theft charge.

Nqabutho Ncube (34) pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months in jail.

The court, however, suspended six months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.

The other six months were also suspended on condition that he restitutes the complainant her money before October 30.

The remainder of six months was commuted to 410 hours of community service.

The court was told that on April 12 in Makokoba, Ncube stole US$900 from his girlfriend Nyasha Nyamasakura (41).

Ncube and Nyamasakura had been living together for about two years.

Nyamasakura had left Ncube at home going to work.

Ncube then stole the money and left the house.

Nyamasakura returned home later in the day and when she tried to call Ncube on his cellphone, he was not reachable.

This made Nyamasakura suspicious.

She then checked under the mattress to see if her money was there, and found that it was missing.

Also missing were Ncube’s clothes.

Nyamasakura reported the matter to the police and Ncube was only arrested after his return from South Africa.
