Hwange coouncillor leads clean-up campaigns

Sibanda said the campaign is ‘mainly focused on behavioral change’.

Hwange Local Board Ward 14 councillor, Albert Vendas Sibanda, is leading an anti-littering campaign to ensure cleanliness in his area.

Sibanda said the campaign is ‘mainly focused on behavioral change’.

“The amount of "eyesore" litter, not just plastic, is increasing exponentially on roadsides and in public spaces," he said.

Sibanda, who is also the vice chairperson of the local board, said he had managed to source refuse receptacles from the Environmental Management Agency.

"Most of the litter comprises alcoholic beverage plastic containers as well as pampers (baby diapers),” he said.

“We have engaged those in the retail business to actively participate in our efforts to curb littering since they are the ones who sell products whose packages will be thrown around after consumption.”

Ward 14 has more than 700 households, with over 500 located at Ngumija compound, while 127 are found at Raylton low density suburb.
