THE City of Bulawayo has held a memorial ceremony for the late Alderman Colin Stuart Colin Lumsden, who passed away on August 12 this year in Cheltenham, United Kingdom.
After growing up in Scotland, Lumsden migrated to Zimbabwe and worked for several companies, including the National Railways of Zimbabwe.
He served as Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial secretary for transport and welfare.
Lumsden also served as councillor for ward 3 from August 1978 up to August 1987.
He was re-elected as ward 2 councillor in 1989 before he won back his ward 3, which he served up to 2003.
He became an alderman on July 20, 1991.
Former mayor Alderman Dennis Ndlovu hailed Lumsden as a noble man with a golden heart.
“He was a very well-behaved councillor and I am sure that he has no record of misconduct,” Ndlovu said.

Mayor David Coltart applauded Lumsden for bridging racial lines right after a tough time during the country’s war of liberation.
Former deputy mayor David Ndlovu recalled how residents of Nkulumane knew Lumsden as Sibanda as he would jokingly say the initial in his name stood for his Ndebele surname.
Lumsden was known for his outstanding service in public bodies including the Bulawayo Publicity Association, provincial council, Esigodini/Ncema Dam, National Museums and Monuments as well as Parks and Wildlife.
