MATABELELAND secessionist political outfit Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has expressed excitement after its petition on self-determination was officially received and stamped by the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) secretariat in Botswana last week.

The development comes at a time when MRP leader Mqondisi Moyo had said they had exhausted all internal remedies without success in their efforts to restore the Mthwakazi state.

He said they were also trying to push for addressing of human rights violations such as the Gukurahundi massacres, marginalisation and exclusion of the Matabeleland and Midlands regions in Zimbabwe’s development.

In an interview yesterday, Moyo said the party was elated that its petition to Sadc was received on August 16, signifying the acknowledgement of its case as genuine.

He said MRP amplified its quest for self-determination with resolute determination.

“In a significant development Tobias Fuyana, representative of MRP and chairperson of Botswana South charter, submitted a letter to the Sadc Secretariat Headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana on Friday.

“The letter I wrote reiterates the party’s unwavering commitment to self-determination and lists specific legitimate demands, including a quest for dialogue and action regarding Mthwakazi self-determination,” Moyo said.

“Notably, the submission of this letter coincided with the upcoming Sadc Heads of State and Government Summit, scheduled to commence in Harare, Zimbabwe, on August 17.

“This timely submission ensured that the MRP’s demands and concerns were brought to the forefront of regional attention.”

Moyo said his letter presented a compelling narrative, supported by irrefutable evidence, including a petition signed by 25 880 individuals, unequivocally demonstrating the Mthwakazi people’s desire for freedom and self-governance.

“The Sadc secretariat’s acknowledgement of receipt, assigning reference number 3951863, signifies a crucial step forward.

“The secretariat’s assurance of engagement with us on this critical issue paves way for a potential breakthrough, heralding a new era of co-operation and understanding,” he said.

“As the MRP navigates the complex landscape of regional diplomacy, the party remains steadfast in its commitment to achieving total independence from Zimbabwe through peaceful means.”

Moyo said with unwavering resolve, MRP urged its supporters to remain united, calm and resolute as the party explores all avenues to realise self-determination.

He said the latest development underscored MRP’s “unshakeable dedication” to advancing the Mthwakazi self-determination agenda, fostering peace, justice and unity among its people.

“As the party pushes forward, it remains steadfast in its pursuit of a brighter future for the Mthwakazi nation, illuminating the path towards a new era of freedom and prosperity,” he said.
