NKAYI traditional leader, Chief Mbusi Dakamela

NKAYI traditional leader, Chief Mbusi Dakamela has hailed the Isiphala seNkosi programme saying it has created employment for locals in the area.

He said the villagers had, through that programme, assisted in the acquisition of essential medical equipment to cater for the community.

Chief Dakamela yesterday told Southern Eye that Isiphala seNkosi had helped in community development, leading to the acquisition of a seven-tonne truck.

He said the truck had contributed to revenue generation as it is hired by individuals, hence allowing them to have more money.

“Through the Isiphala seNkosi, we have been able to raise funds for the purchase of an ambulance, which will help in the transportation of patients. This shows that it is not only for providing food, but helps in the development of the community at large,” he said.

“We have been able to purchase two grinding mills using funds from Isiphala seNkosi, hence creating jobs within our community.

“We are also able to pay school fees for the underprivileged in our community besides providing food for the vulnerable.”

Chief Dakamela said they initiated Isibaya seNkosi last year, adding that presently, they had 30 cattle under the programme.

“We have come up Isibaya seNkosi and it serves as a reserve bank as cattle have value, which more often increases. We hope to use the Isibaya seNkosi to fund projects to develop our community as cattle always have value,” he said.

The traditional leader said in future, they would be working towards running a butchery which would help to create more jobs within the community and also venture into the leather industry as they aimed to develop Nkayi.
