THE Bulawayo Polytechnic School of Tourism and Hospitality has attained the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) membership status, a development that will benefit students and the institution.
This was announced by the principal Chiedza Masanganise during the institution’s 95th graduation ceremony held at the Polytechnic main campus in Bulawayo on Thursday.
“The school has reached new heights and solidified its reputation as a premier institution of tourism and hospitality education and training. We are now a member of the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe. This enables us as a school to be in tandem with current trends in the hospitality industry,” she said.
“Furthermore, all our students are easily absorbed in tourism in the hospitality industry whether for attachment, employment or setting up their business start-ups.”
HAZ is the trade association representing and promoting the interests of owners and operators of hotels, restaurants, clubs and related establishments throughout Zimbabwe.
It has been in existence for 71 years and represents a very important constituency, given the hospitality sector’s status as a major employer, earner of foreign currency and contributor to the national economy.
Masanganise said the School of Hospitality left an indelible mark during First Lady Auxillia Mnangangwa’s CookOut Competition with their culinary skills, where they came first and second at provincial level.
This school came third at the national level and this made them qualify to participate at the First United Nations Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa in Victoria Falls.

“To keep up with the modern trends in the hospitality industry, Hotel St Patrick’s is currently under renovations in an endeavour to attain a three star rating,” Masanganise said.
“This will provide a practical training ground for our students and increase occupancy.”
