Inyankuni pump station rehabilitation 80% complete

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has said the rehabilitation of the Inyankuni Pump Station drainage system in uMzingwane is now 80% complete which is expected to improve water supplies to the country’s second largest city.

According to a Bulawayo technical weekly report, BCC senior public relations officer Nesisa Mpofu said the drainage system is nearing its completion, with some of the accessories to be delivered in September.

“The contract for the supply, installation and commissioning of water pumps and accessories at Inyankuni pump station is currently underway,” the report read.

“Civil works are in progress on site, with the drainage system rehabilitation at 80%. Pump assembly is currently at 20% completion, valve manufacture is at 30%, electromagnetic flow meter assembly at 20%, pipe fabrication at 0% and overhead crane progress is at 60%.”

It added: “The procurement of materials for the suction and manifolds is 100% complete, fabrication and installation of suction and delivery at 50% complete and procurement of pumps is 30% complete. Pumps are in the production stage, delivery is expected in September.”

Mpofu said the city is also in the process of procuring leak repair materials to reduce the backlog of leaks.
