Prosecutor Ronald Mugwagwa opposed bail on the grounds that the offence was of economic interest.

BEITBRIDGE magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba yesterday rolled over to Monday the bail ruling of six suspected illegal foreign currency dealers who were arrested in the border town this week.

The accused are Phillip Parishi, Lovemore Chivambe, Justice Machisane, Martin Chikuni, Tatenda Muzadzi and Alfred Muchena who are accused of flouting the Foreign Exchange Act.

Prosecutor Ronald Mugwagwa opposed bail on the grounds that the offence was of economic interest.

A team of lawyers representing the accused, however, argued that their clients did not have any ZiG notes on them and had not been found trading with anyone.

The lawyers also challenged the State to produce evidence that the accused were actually forex dealers because the police did not interview them on what they were doing with money found on them in a multi-currency State.
