Zebra meat lands Binga man in trouble

Local
Artfield Moyo pleaded guilty when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube on Friday last week.

A 35-YEAR-OLD man from Chuuzya village in Lusulu, Binga, has been arraigned before the courts after being caught in possession of zebra meat which he was transporting to an unknown destination.

Artfield Moyo pleaded guilty when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube on Friday last week.

He was remanded in custody to today for sentencing.

According to court papers, police on April 11 this year received information that Moyo was in possession of game meat at Amakhosi Garage in Bulawayo.

After receiving the information, police details went to the garage and apprehended Moyo, who was loading the meat into a vehicle.

The court heard that the police details conducted a search in Moyo’s presence and seven sacks of game meat were recovered.

Moyo was asked to produce a permit or licence authorising him to deal in game meat and he failed, leading to his arrest.

Investigations were carried out and Moyo led police to the scene of crime, where two zebra carcasses were recovered.

The meat was taken to a veterinarian for confirmation and a report was produced which served as an exhibit.

The meat weighed 240kg and was valued at US$6 000.
