The Queens Park East man pleaded not guilty to the rape charge when he appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla on Tuesday.

A 58-YEAR-OLD man from Queens Park East in Bulawayo has been slapped with 20 years in jail for raping his daughter and impregnating her.

In another case, a 26-year-old Nyamandlovu man was jailed 15 years for for raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

The Queens Park East man pleaded not guilty to the rape charge when he appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla on Tuesday.

The magistrate, however, convicted and sentenced him to 20 years in jail.

Two years of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court was told that in May last year, the man asked his daughter (19) to have sexual intercourse with him in return for school fees and bus fare back to Turk Mine, where she resides with her mother.

She refused, but he forced himself on her without protection.

He threatened to kill her and commit suicide if she disclosed the issue to anyone. He then gave her money for fees the following day.

Two months later, the man summoned his daughter to Bulawayo to collect some money.

He demanded sex, but she refused. He then raped her before threatening her with death if she disclosed the abuse.

In August, during school holidays, the man again asked her to visit his place for the holidays and again raped her on three different occasions without protection.

He also threatened to kill her and to commit suicide if she told anyone.

In December, the mother interrogated her daughter after suspecting that she was pregnant, but she never disclosed her rape ordeal.

She later disclosed the sexual assault in January this year.

A medical test discovered that she was 20 weeks pregnant.

In another case, a 26-year-old Nyamandlovu man allegedly raped his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

He pleaded guilty when he appeared before magistrate Mkandla on Tuesday.

He was sentenced to 15 years in jail, with three years suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on the morning of February 11 last month, the stepdaughter and her siblings were left home in the custody of the stepfather by their mother.

At around 4pm, he sent the girl’s siblings to the shops.

Taking advantage of their absence, he asked the girl to join him in watching videos on his phone, but she refused.

He followed her into her bedroom and raped her once.

After the act, he threatened her with death if she revealed the matter to anyone.

On February 13, the child’s mother noticed that she was walking with difficulties and took her to Nyamandlovu Hospital on February 14, where she revealed that she had been raped.
