A 35-YEAR-OLD Gweru woman whose son was allegedly sexually abused by a male neighbour two years ago has said she has lost hope in getting justice for her child.
The woman said she reported the case to the police on November 11, 2021 but no action had been taken against the suspect.
The woman, who resides in Mambo high-density suburb, yesterday told Southern Eye that she suspected a cover up at Mtapa Police Station where the accused 16-year-old boy’s father works as a police constabulary.
“Since I reported the matter in November 2021 there has been no trial for the accused who was 14 years old then,” she said.
A letter written to the mother by Gweru Urban District Police Station showed that she had lodged a complaint with Mtapa Police Station.
“In your letter you mentioned that you reported the case at Mtapa Police Station where your son (name given) was a victim of aggravated indecent assault,” part of the letter dated April 28, 2022 read.
“You stated that the accused (name given) is a son to one police constabulary (name given).
“Due to this fact it’s your belief that this case has taken too long to come to courts as you suspect that the accused is being favoured as he is a police constabulary’s son.”
