A 24-YEAR-OLD housemaid from village 1 Cement Side, Bulawayo, has appeared in court facing charges of unlawfully terminating a pregnancy and dumping the foetus at a rubbish dump.
Junior Ncube pleaded guilty to the charges when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa on Thursday last week.
The magistrate remanded her in custody to September 21 for continuation of trial.
The court was told that on September 3, Mitchel Mukorera saw her dog sniffing at something which looked like meat at the rubbish dump and she went to investigate, only to discover a human foetus.
It is the State case that Mukorera notified Ncube and her landlord Bekithemba Mbewe.
Mbewe reportedly interrogated Ncube who confessed that she had terminated the pregnancy.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Ncube’s arrest.
She was taken for medical examination at United Bulawayo Hospitals where it was established that she had aborted the pregnancy.
