SUSPECTED Zanu PF activists reportedly descended on vendors at Bulawayo vegetable markets on Monday indiscriminately attacking them and vandalising their stalls.
Sources said the alleged Zanu PF members were reportedly angry with the vendors for refusing to be ferried by Zupco buses to the party’s rallies.
Bulawayo Vendors and Traders Association executive director, Michael Ndiweni, condemned the violence.
“Our conviction is that no grouping must be law unto itself, its criminal and we hope law enforcement agents will rise above this matter and arrest the perpetrators of violence,” Ndiweni said.
Zanu PF Bulawayo spokesperson, Archibold Chiponda also condemned the violence.
“If they are found to be party members, they will be disciplined accordingly and to the full extent of our internal disciplinary process as well as the laws of Zimbabwe regarding such issues,” Chiponda said.
“As a party we will not tolerate anything that disturbs the peace that our first secretary President Emmerson Mnangagwa is appealing for from the citizens of Zimbabwe.”
Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police were conducting investigations into the violence.
