Inyathi man fatally axes fellow imbiber, jailed 20 years

The court heard that Mthabisi Ndimande struck the now-deceased with an axe following a heated argument over an undisclosed matter.

HWANGE, March 13, (NewsDayLive) - A 23-year-old man from Inyathi in Bubi district has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for fatally striking a fellow imbiber with an axe following a dispute over an undisclosed issue.

The incident happened at Turkmine Business Centre on August 5, 2024.

The court heard that Mthabisi Ndimande struck the now-deceased with an axe following a heated argument over an undisclosed matter.

“The two men were arguing over an undisclosed issue. A security guard intervened, and the deceased sat down while the accused remained standing.

“Without warning, the offender pulled an axe from his waist and struck the deceased once on the head,” the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said in a statement.

The deceased was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to the injuries the following day.
