BINDURA, March 12, (NewsDayLive) - A 38-old man from Chakondora village in Shamva has been sentenced to 111 years in prison for terrorising villagers and raping women in the Mt Darwin and Madziwa areas, two years ago.
Luckmore Mazambani was convicted after he pleaded of guilty to six counts of rape and three counts of robbery when he appeared before a Bindura regional magistrate early this week.
He admitted to unleashin g a reign of terror between January and December 2023, particularly targeting women who lived alone.
The court heard that Mazambani would break into his victims' homes, often under the cover of darkness, armed with weapons such as machetes and axe-handles.
Once inside, he would rape and rob them of various items including cash, mobile phones and groceries.
He was sentenced to 15 years on each count of rape and 12 years on each count of robbery, resulting in the lengthy sentence.
