Moza crisis: CCC endorses Sadc Troika’s call for dialogue

The opposition disputed the election results, and mobilized the electorate to protest resulting in over 200 deaths.

OPPOSITION Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has endorsed the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) Troika’s call for inclusive dialogue to resolve the electoral dispute and violence in Mozambique which erupted after the general elections held in October last year.

The opposition disputed the election results, and mobilized the electorate to protest resulting in over 200 deaths.

In a statement , the CCC also expressed concern over the use of excessive force by State security agents in dealing with violent protests.

“We welcome the Sadc Troika’s call for an inclusive dialogue to resolve the electoral disputes and address the underlying issues driving the unrest,” the CCC said.

“This is a crucial step towards finding a peaceful and sustainable solution to the crisis. We urge the Mozambican government to guarantee the safe return of opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane tomorrow, ensuring his security and freedom to participate in the dialogue process.

“The government must also take concrete steps to investigate the killings and human rights abuses reported during the protests.” The violent clashes between the State security agents and civilians has affected the economic activities in the region as most SADC countries rely on Mozambican ports for trade.
