5 killed in Kuwadzana road accident

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the driver of the commuter omnibus turned right into Bulawayo Road without checking for traffic.

FIVE people died on the spot when a Toyota Hiace commuter omnibus with a yet-to-be established number of passengers on board collided with a fuel tanker at Kuwadzana 7 turn-off along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway Thursday morning.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the driver of the commuter omnibus turned right into Bulawayo Road without checking for traffic.

He said the bodies of the victims were taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for post mortem, while six other people, who were injured, were admitted into the same hospital.

The deceased are yet-to-be named as they have not yet been identified by their next of kin, Nyathi said.

Meanwhile, two people were killed while five others were injured when a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle veered off the road and overturned before landing on its wheels at the 225km peg along the Harare-Masvingo Highway Wednesday afternoon.

Nyathi said the bodies of the victims were taken to Mvuma Hospital mortuary for post mortem while four of the injured victims were admitted to the same hospital.

The other injured victim was referred to a hospital in Harare for further medical attention.
