Guard nabbed for insulting ED

Ezekiel Chiradza also criticised the introduction of the new Zimbabwe Gold (ZWG) currency, introduced to replace the Zimdollar that had been rendered worthless by inflation.

A 35-YEAR-OLD Beitbridge security guard has been arrested for allegedly accusing President Emmerson Mnangagwa of economic mismanagement.

Ezekiel Chiradza also criticised the introduction of the new Zimbabwe Gold (ZWG) currency, introduced to replace the Zimdollar that had been rendered worthless by inflation.

In a statement yesterday, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said Chiradza, who was being represented by their associate Patrick Tererai, was charged with insulting the President under Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

“There is no respite in targeting of citizens for perceived dissent, and in Beitbridge, a 35-year-old security guard has been arrested and charged for allegedly insulting President Mnangagwa, whom he accused of economic mismanagement and also for disapproving [of the] use of ZiG currency,” the ZLHR said

“Ezekiel Chiradza, who works as a security guard at Beitbridge Town Council, was arrested by ZRP officers on September 2 and charged with undermining authority of or insulting the President . . .”

Chiradza reportedly recorded a video and posted it on a WhatsApp group called Zim Politics, in which he was singing and uttering words condemning Mnangagwa and praising opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.
